This is our Pope, Pope Francis or Papa Francisco in Italian

He comes from South America, where they have cowboys who wear ponchos.

Pope Francis was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio on 17 December 1936

He was ordained a priest with the Jesuit order on 13 December 1969

He was made a bishop in Argentina on 27 June 1992

He was made a Cardinal by Pope John Paul II on 21 February 2001

He became our beloved Pope on 13 March 2013. Did you see this on TV?

He is known to be a football fan

He enjoys cooking - his mum taught him when he was a child

His favourite saint is St Therese (also known as the little Flower). Have you read her story on Kid's Cloister?

So what does our Pope have to say to you?

He has a big devotion to Our Lady and loves the image of 'Mary, undoer of knots.'

When he had just been elected as Pope, the first thing he said to the people, which includes you and me, was: “Pray for me, remember to pray for me.”
Do you pray for Pope Francis in your daily prayers?
He needs your prayers, as he has a very hard job to do in guiding the Church.

On the day of his inauguration Pope Francis told us: “To pray is so beautiful, it means looking to heaven and to our hearts.”
Do you think praying is a beautiful thing to do?
Do you pray often? We your little sisters pray as a community seven times a day.
Pope Francis wants you to have a good friendship with Jesus and to do this you need to talk to Him, talking to Him is prayer.
